An OVID Health article by David Talbot
In a world of AI, it was refreshing to bring together a cohort of genuine experts in oncology policy, science and innovation to discuss & debate – in detail – the National Cancer Plan:
The plan represents the government’s most comprehensive and ambitious cancer strategy in over a decade – designed to transform outcomes so that 75% of people diagnosed with cancer survive for at least 5 years by 2035.
It was underpinned by more than 11,000 responses from patients, clinicians, charities and industry, reflecting a broad coalition of voices across the cancer community – many of whom OVID Health was proud to support in their submissions.
The opportunities for enhanced diagnostics, innovative therapeutics, an enhanced clinical trials UK eco-system, enhanced patient experience and equity, research and development, public-private collaboration and personalised care all have the potential to ensure England is a global leader in cancer outcomes by 2035.
The Government has committed to meeting all cancer waiting times by 2029; a hugely significant – and perhaps, overly ambitious – shift after a decade of missed targets.
As several of our excellent panel, AstraZenca’s Rosie Mughal, Macmillan Cancer Support’s Anthony Cunliffe, and author of the Rare Cancer Bill, Scott Arthur, noted much of the detail of how these commitments will be delivered is still taking place.
Thank you to the 70+ who registered to listen to, and participate in, this vital debate!
